Everything you need to know about BoldSIM eSIMs. Can't find the answer? Our support team is ready to help.
Getting Started
4An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card built directly into your smartphone. Unlike a physical SIM, it can be programmed and activated remotely — no card swapping needed. You simply scan a QR code to download your plan instantly.
Getting started takes under 2 minutes: search for your destination, pick a data plan, complete checkout, and you'll receive a QR code by email. Scan the code before your trip to install the eSIM, then activate it when you arrive.
Your eSIM QR code is delivered instantly via email as soon as payment is confirmed — no shipping wait. You can also access it anytime from your BoldSIM account dashboard.
No. BoldSIM is a data-only eSIM. Your original SIM and phone number stay fully active. Apps like WhatsApp, iMessage, and FaceTime continue working as normal over your BoldSIM data connection.
Device & Compatibility
4Most flagship smartphones from 2018 onwards support eSIM — including iPhone XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, and Google Pixel 3 and newer. Use our Device Check tool to confirm your exact model is compatible.
Your device must be carrier-unlocked to use a third-party eSIM. If your phone is locked, contact your current carrier to request an unlock — it's typically free once your contract is fulfilled.
Yes. Most modern smartphones can store multiple eSIM profiles simultaneously. Many devices support Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS), letting you keep your home SIM active for calls while BoldSIM handles data.
eSIM profiles are tied to a specific device for security reasons. If you change phones, contact our support team and we'll help re-issue your plan to your new device, subject to remaining plan validity.
Plans & Pricing
5We offer local country plans, regional multi-country plans (e.g. Europe Pass), and global plans. Durations range from 7 to 90 days, with data allowances from 1 GB to unlimited. Browse our Destinations page to see all plans for your country.
BoldSIM plans are data-only and do not include traditional voice minutes or SMS. However, you can make calls and send messages using internet-based apps — WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram, Zoom — over your BoldSIM data connection.
Plan validity starts from the moment you first activate the eSIM on a local network — not from the purchase date. Validity periods are clearly shown before checkout and typically range from 7 to 90 days.
Yes. If you run out of data or your plan is about to expire, purchase a new plan for the same destination from your account. It'll be available immediately and can be switched to from your phone's eSIM settings.
Yes, unlimited plans are available for many popular destinations. These provide high-speed data without a hard cap, though speeds may be reduced during peak network congestion or after a fair-use threshold in some regions.
Using Your eSIM
4On iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code. On Android: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Add eSIM. Scan your BoldSIM QR code and follow the prompts. We recommend installing on Wi-Fi before your trip.
Once you land, open your phone's cellular settings and set BoldSIM as your active data SIM. Enable Data Roaming on the BoldSIM line. Your phone will connect to the local network automatically within a few minutes.
Try these steps in order: (1) Confirm BoldSIM is set as your active data SIM. (2) Enable Data Roaming on the BoldSIM line. (3) Toggle Airplane Mode on and off. (4) On iPhone, manually select a carrier under Settings → Cellular → Network Selection. Contact support if the issue persists.
It depends on the plan. Regional plans like our Europe Pass cover multiple countries under a single plan. Country-specific plans only work in that country. Always check the plan details page to confirm which countries are included.
Orders & Account
4Log in to your BoldSIM account to see all current and past plans, access your QR codes, and check data usage where available. You can also find your QR code in the original confirmation email.
Yes. Refunds are available on plans that have not yet been activated (the QR code has not been scanned and installed). Refund requests must be submitted within 30 days of purchase. Contact our support team to get started.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal. All transactions are processed securely through Stripe.
Yes. Payments are handled by Stripe, a PCI DSS Level 1 certified payment processor — we never store your card details. Personal data is processed in accordance with GDPR and our Privacy Policy.
